About the app-specific password for Apple iCloud Calendar integration

An app-specific password is a password that Apple issues for connecting third-party apps, separate from your Apple ID password. Use this app-specific password to connect Jicoo. Your Apple ID password will not work.

Apple generates the app-specific password automatically. You cannot choose the characters yourself. It is displayed as a string of letters divided into groups of four by hyphens, as shown below.

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

Copy the string shown on the Apple screen and paste it directly into the input field in Jicoo. You do not need to reformat it or add any characters.

How to create one

Follow the steps on Apple's official help page.

The general flow is as follows. Screen names and layouts may change as Apple updates its service, so please refer to the official help page above for details.

  1. Sign in to your Apple Account page

  2. Under Sign-In and Security, select App-Specific Passwords

  3. Enter a name (label) for the app-specific password. You can enter any name here. Enter something like "Jicoo" so that you can tell later what the password was issued for

  4. The generated app-specific password is displayed. Copy this string

  5. On the calendar connection screen in Jicoo, enter your Apple ID email address and the app-specific password you copied

*The name you enter in step 3 is a label for managing the password on Apple's side. It is not something you enter into Jicoo.

*Once you close the screen, the generated app-specific password cannot be displayed again. Keep the screen open until you have finished entering it into Jicoo, or make a note of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to issue one app-specific password per app?

No. Apple does not provide a mechanism to restrict a single app-specific password to a particular app. The name you enter in step 3 is only an identifying label and does not limit where the password can be used.

That said, we recommend issuing a separate app-specific password for each connection. This way, if you want to revoke a connection, you can delete just that app-specific password.

Can I specify which characters the password uses?

No. Apple generates the app-specific password automatically, so you cannot choose the characters. Please use the string as displayed.

I entered it but the connection fails

Please check the following.

  • Whether you entered your Apple ID password instead (an app-specific password is required)

  • Whether the email address is the one for your Apple ID

  • Whether an extra space was included before or after the app-specific password when you copied it

  • Whether you have deleted the app-specific password on Apple's screen

If the problem persists after checking the above, issue a new app-specific password on Apple's screen and try again.
